A native New Yorker, Barbie first became enamored with film as a medium when she found herself borrowing old independent films from local libraries, and spending many afternoons of her formative high school years watching VHS tapes in her bedroom with the lights off and curtains drawn.
After receiving her B.A. in Film and Media Studies, Barbie began production work with stagehand stints at the Eastman Opera Theatre in Rochester, New York and later at off-Broadway shows in New York City. After a brief internship at IFP New York in 2006, the opportunity to shift to film production came when Barbie was offered the role of Script Supervisor on the 2007 independent feature, “The Ones You Love.” Since then Barbie has continued to work freelance on New York-based independent feature films, shorts, and documentary webisodes as Producer, Unit Production Manager, 1st and 2nd Assistant Director, 2nd Camera, and Production Assistant. Barbie has also set aside time to work on the screening department staff of the annual Tribeca Film Festival in 2007 and 2008 as Assistant Venue Manager.
Currently, she is Associate Producer for the dramatic short, "Portrait," a film by Jane Ann Valentine, which is set to premiere on the film festival circuit later this year.
Barbie is expected to complete a Certificate in Filmmaking at New York University by the fall of 2009.
